It seems that every other day someone is finding a new way way to utilize the updated dashboard framework in SalesLogix 7.5.3. One of the more clever ideas I have heard throughout the beta cycle and the gold release was to make an iFrame control available in the list of widgets. This not only allows people to add websites to their dashboards with absolutely zero code, but it also allows people to display HTML files like the ones generated by KnowledgeSync and TaskCentre.
What does this mean to the SalesLogix developer? You no longer need to create a custom .ascx (and sometimes and .ascx.cs page page too) for EVERY dashboard widget.
What does this mean to the SalesLogix user? With zero code you can add items to SalesLogix dashboards like webcasts your alert engine has created. I see this becoming a really strong differentiator for us and a way that we can really improve the user experience.
I am attaching some directions provided to me on how to add iFrame as a widget type. I strongly recommend that anyone interested in adding this or any other dashboard control spend a few minutes and watch Jason Huber's video "Building Dashboard Widgets in Sage SalesLogix v7.5.3" To view the webcast recording, go to: http://sage.acrobat.com/p18903422/
